This is the first stage of the Alta Via delle Cinque Terre high-level route: from Portovenere to the Colle del Telegrafo, 4.7 km and about 250 metres of ascent, which the National Park estimates at three hours twenty.
You start from piazzetta Bastreri in Portovenere, up a steep flight of steps past the Doria castle and some disused quarries; just beyond the castle the view opens over the Gulf of Poets. A variant follows the coastline above the climbing walls of the Muzzerone, with the islands of Palmaria and Tino ahead and, on clear days, Gorgona, Capraia and Corsica.
After Sella Derbi the path crosses the scrub of Monte Castellana to Campiglia, with its small windmill, then climbs through woods with cork oaks to the Sant'Antonio pass and, on the level, to the Telegrafo.
