Trail 590 is the climb from Monterosso to the Mesco headland: 2.5 kilometres and 300 metres of ascent, an hour and a quarter uphill according to the National Park. It is the first stretch of the Sentiero Azzurro towards Levanto.
It starts from the Fegina seafront, at the foot of the Giant statue, and climbs first on a stairway, then along a stretch of tarmac. After the turn-off for the Hotel Bellevue the path enters the Mediterranean scrub, on steps and dirt track, up to the junction with trail 591.
A few hundred metres further on, in a holm-oak wood, stand the ruins of the 11th-century hermitage of Sant'Antonio del Mesco, with a view over the whole of the Cinque Terre. Just beyond is the Semaforo, an old military signal station now abandoned. The only water fountain is at Fegina, at the start.
