Varazze is one of the few places on the Riviera where the question "train or car?" nearly always has an easy answer: the train. The station is in town, Genoa is close, and in summer parking on the seafront is the most expensive and most contested part of the day.
By train
Varazze station is on the coastal Genoa–Ventimiglia line and is served by Trenitalia regional trains. From Genoa it is about 29 km, just over twenty minutes; in the other direction you reach Savona and the western Riviera without changing.
From the station you walk to the old town and the sea. It is also the easiest way to do the Lungomare Europa without a car: you set off on foot from the town towards Cogoleto and, if you do not want to walk back, you return by train from Cogoleto station, on the same line.
By car
Varazze has its own exit on the A10 Genoa–Ventimiglia motorway. From the toll gate you drive down towards the sea and the Aurelia, which runs through the town: on summer weekends it is this last stretch that slows you down, not the motorway.
Paid parking
In the most central areas and on the seafront parking is almost all on blue bays. The Municipality has taken paid parking back under its own direct management, on an experimental basis, replacing the company that ran it before.
- Non-residents: 1.80 € an hour, with a minimum payment of half an hour (0.90 €).
- Residents: the first hour is free, then 0.50 € an hour.
- People with disabilities: free for up to 3 hours.
- How to pay: at the meter or with the EasyPark app.
Hours and rates can change with the season and the zone: the sign and the meter on site always have the last word.
Free parking
The town lists two free parking areas:
- the harbour area, without dedicated services, also used by campervans;
- piazzale Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, a large car park.
In summer they fill up early: if you arrive mid-morning on a Saturday in July, allow for a few extra laps, or for paid parking.

Before booking, ask the property whether parking is included, private or public, guaranteed or only likely, and how far it is on foot to the sea. If you arrive by train, check the distance from the station: with luggage, that is the measure that counts.
