The coastal railway allows you to explore many locations in the Riviera di Ponente without a car. Genoa, Finale Ligure, Alassio, Diano, Imperia, and Sanremo can become stops on a progressive itinerary.
However, the train does not solve every transfer: some villages, including Cervo and those in the inland areas, require buses, taxis, or a walk. The program must therefore distinguish between locations with a central station and destinations that need a final connection.
From Genoa towards Ponente
Genoa is the most complete starting point, thanks to the Principe and Brignole stations and national connections. Before departing, you can spend one or two days in the city.

From Genoa, the railway continues towards Savona and the locations of the Riviera delle Palme.
First stop: Finale Ligure
Finale Ligure combines beach, station, and connection with Finalborgo. It is a suitable stop for those who want to combine sea, history, and outdoor activities.
For a simple day:
- arrival in the morning;
- walk in Finale Marina;
- transfer to Finalborgo;
- visit the center;
- return to the station.
Varigotti requires an additional connection and should not be automatically included on the same day.
Second stop: Alassio
Alassio is one of the easiest locations to visit by train. The station is close to the center, the Budello, the Muretto, and the beach.

Cervo and the Golfo Dianese
Cervo does not have a station in the village. The municipal tourist page indicates Diano as a reference, with further arrangements to be organized.

The Golfo Dianese also includes Diano Marina, San Bartolomeo al Mare, and Andora. To visit multiple locations in the same day, you need to check connections and real times.
Imperia
Imperia consists of several areas, including Porto Maurizio and Oneglia. The location of the stations and the distances require attention.
A day can focus on only one part of the city, avoiding continuous crossings. Porto Maurizio offers the village of Parasio and the large Basilica of San Maurizio; Oneglia has the port, center, and a tradition related to oil.
Sanremo
Sanremo is a natural final stop. The station allows you to arrive without a car and reach the center, considering the route from the train exit.
Teatro Ariston, Via Matteotti, Pigna, villas, and the bike path require at least one or two days.

How to choose accommodations
For a train trip, check:
- real distance from the station;
- stairs;
- elevator;
- luggage storage;
- check-in;
- last train;
- connection with the village;
- possible bus stop;
- railway noise;
- air conditioning.
“Close to the station” should be accompanied by walking time and a description of the route.
Tickets and schedules
Schedules, works, and fares change. Use official systems and do not rely on old screenshots.
Leave some margin for connections, especially when you need to take a bus or a boat after the train.
Traveling with luggage
A compact bag makes underpasses, stairs, and transfers easier. Organize storage and check-in before departure.
Do not use a location as a stop for a few hours while carrying bulky luggage unless there is a confirmed storage option.
Sea and high season
In summer, trains can be crowded. Leave early, avoid blocking doors and aisles with equipment, and check the rules for bicycles.
Beach spot availability is not guaranteed by arriving by train.
Alternatives to the railway
Buses and bike paths complete the journey. Biking is particularly interesting in the Ponente, but the route must be chosen based on ability and open stretches.
