Between Savona and Noli, Spotorno and Bergeggi share one of the most recognisable stretches of sea on the western Riviera, with the green outline of the island of Bergeggi as a backdrop to every swim.
The beaches of Spotorno
Spotorno has a long sandy shore in front of the town, with equipped beach clubs and free stretches whose position should be checked for the current season. The town is flat and family-sized: a seafront walk, ice cream shops and the beach a few steps from the accommodation in the centre.
Bergeggi and the reserve
Bergeggi climbs the hillside, but its coast offers coves and some of the clearest water in the area, within the regional nature reserve. The island opposite, with its tower and Mediterranean scrub, is protected and you may not land on it freely: you admire it from the coast or on kayak trips and organised excursions, also much loved by divers for the seabed and the sea cave.
The Spotorno–Bergeggi walk
The two towns are linked by a path right along the coast that offers continuous glimpses of the island: walking it at sunset is the best way to close a day by the sea.
Getting there
Spotorno has bus connections along the Aurelia and its reference station at Spotorno-Noli on the coastal line; by car, the Spotorno motorway exit is a few minutes from the sea. In high season the car parks near the beaches fill up early.
